Neuronal Data Analyzer Lab: step-by-step analysis windows for blood flow, electrophysiology, EEG and imaging
Neuronal Data Analyzer Lab is a MATLAB toolbox with one window per analysis step: Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF), laser speckle flowmetry, local field potentials (LFP), multi-unit activity (MUA), EEG, image stacks, histology and response features. Every window can open synthetic demo data with known answers, so you can check the results before using your own recordings.
Pipelines
Laser Doppler flowmetry
Load a recording (LabChart, AcqKnowledge export, Spike2, EDF or a table), crop, filter and downsample, cut trials around each stimulus and plot the grand average.
Laser speckleLaser speckle flowmetry
Blood-flow maps from laser speckle images: speckle contrast, a flow index, the flow of each ROI over time, trials around each stimulus and a response map.
ElectrophysiologyLFP: ERP, CSD, time–frequency
Evoked potentials, current source density, spectrum, spectrogram, ERSP / ITPC and band power.
ElectrophysiologyMUA: spike detection and sorting
Threshold detection, PCA and clustering, auto-merge, manual merge / split, raster and PSTH, correlograms, quality checks.
EEGEEG: cleaning, ERPs, statistics
Raw or cleaned EEG (BrainVision, EDF / BDF, XDF, EEG-BIDS, EEGLAB, FieldTrip or MATLAB): electrode layouts, bad channels, filters, re-reference, trials and rejection, ERPs per condition, mean or peak amplitude, scalp maps, within-participant tests and time–frequency (ERSP, phase locking, band power).
ImagingROI and line analysis
Motion correction, several ROIs, automatic cell detection, ΔF/F, kymograph and vessel diameter, on stacks from TIFF, video or .mat files.
ImagingHistology and cultures
Still images: align sections or time points, count cells and marker-positive cells, per region and per mm².
Response featuresFeatures, statistics, figures
Peak latency, onset delay, FWHM, AUC, rise and decay time; group tests with effect sizes; vector figure export.
All pipelinesBatch processing
One pipeline (LDF, LFP, MUA, EEG, imaging or response features), one set of settings, a folder of files: one summary table (CSV / MAT) and a log.
All windowsSessions and reports
Save inputs (with MD5 checksums), settings and results; reopen them later; write a one-page PDF report and a draft methods text.
Free · openCourse
Step-by-step lessons in the real windows (LDF, EEG): sample data, what to click and why, and a check of your settings and numbers.
Coming soonVirtual lab
Plan and record a simulated experiment, analyse it yourself and get feedback on the plan, the processing and the results.
DataFile formats
Blood flow (LabChart, AcqKnowledge exports, Spike2, EDF, tables, speckle images), electrophysiology (TDT, Intan, Open Ephys, NWB, SpikeGLX, Blackrock, Neuralynx), EEG (BrainVision, EDF / BDF, XDF, EEG-BIDS, EEGLAB, FieldTrip), image stacks (TIFF, video, .mat); NWB export.
A look at each pipeline
Screenshots taken by the automated tests, which drive every window on the demo data in real MATLAB. Use the arrow keys or the buttons to move through them.
Every window works the same way
- Numbered step cards on the left, plots on the right. The teal button is the suggested next action; buttons that are not possible yet are greyed out.
- The status bar at the bottom says what happened and what to do next.
- ? Help in each window header opens its quick start and troubleshooting (the same text as the guide).
- Try demo data opens the window with synthetic data whose answers are known; the demo data page lists them.
- Each step saves a .mat file that the next step loads, so pipelines can be stopped and resumed.
- The footer of the launcher and of every window links to this website (methods, references and walkthroughs).
Checked against known answers
The demo recordings are generated by the toolbox with a fixed random seed and store their ground truth. The test suite runs every analysis on them, and on analytic and textbook examples, and checks the results within stated tolerances. What the tests check.
